You know, those pregnancy doctors. They have a huge network of affiliates! How did i figure this out you may ask….
It all began when my wife and I found out that we had a surprise pregnancy. We’re both 23 and broke so you can see how motivated I am right now about Internet marketing . Anyway, several weeks ago we had to find a pregnancy doctor that was covered by our insurance. That was a real hassle. But what tipped me off that they’re running a massive million dollar affiliate program was how they got traffic to their office.
The same tactics we use, getting listed in directories, getting reviews about them, writing articles and then leaving a link to their site, and even PPC search marketing. So after looking and looking we finally settled on one that had good reviews.
Ok, the first few visits were fine, got to see the baby on the ultra sound and talk about the pregnancy. Then suddenly they start forcefully recommending all of these tests that were obviously not necessary and that they were promoting for the pharmaceutical companies. Sure we did them because there was no harm in the test…OR SO WE THOUGHT. About a week later we get not one, but two bills from our insurance company saying that they did not cover those tests.
Pretty fishy if you ask me, now it makes sense why the doctors were so pushy on the tests, they knew that the insurance wasn’t going to pay for them! And they absolutely must be getting some financial incentive for ordering useless tests that will cost their patient money out of pocket.
In addition, they keep “referring” us to this one diagnostic company to do other test’s that will probably be deemed “exploratory” by the insurance company. Have you ever heard of a “referral link” in affiliate marketing? The doctor’s referral is just a real world example of a referral link in internet marketing. It ensures that the referring doctor will get their commission.
What’s more is that these pregnancy practices make you come back every month, JUST LIKE A PREMIUM MEMBERSHIP. So they get to stack their monthly revenue through hundreds of patients every month. If this isn’t the a real world version of affiliate marketing and internet marketing than I don’t know what is. The only difference is that it’s government mandated and every one has to complete an 8 or so year long training program to be accepted (med school).
Think about what you can learn from this money making machine in terms of how you can build credibility, and what you can do to retain clients and customers. Personally my wife an I don’t trust our current doctor because she doesn’t offer any helpful information or have an engaging and caring bedside manner when we go to our appointments. We’re going to find somebody better.
When we think of a good doctor, and when we meet with our doctor, we are confused because the two don’t match. We as internet marketers have to exceed what our visitors and readers expect of us, because ultimately that’s the only way we’ll be able to build a sustainable business.
Affiliate marketing is very popular to online business nowadays. It certainly gets the most appropriate people to buy the products you may sell!
