NEWS FLASH….I hear the bombs dropping in Google headquarters in the social networking department. The new Facebook update totally destroyed G+ with today’s announcement about its new features. Including it’s newly updated “ticker” and “timeline” not to mention it’s massive deals with Spotify, Netflix , and Hulu. Facebook is staying ahead of the game on this one especially with mobile. This move is ultra wise and has just extended the life of Facebook a few more years at least. Even though FB is rumored to be loosing millions of users daily these new announcements will keep the current users increase engagement and put pressure on twitter and G+. Looking into the future and the younger generation of mobile users and computer literate teenagers will solidify Facebook’s death grip on social for decades to come.

The guys over a Tecca had this to say, and I agree especially about the part about G+:

Google+ (or G+ or just plain old +) is growing at an unprecedented rate. Now with over 20 million users it simply cannot be ignored…

To be honest, I hate social media. It just rubs me the wrong way. Although that’s probably because I have no friends…(sad face)…despite this fact, G+ is going to be different for me and you alike.

What sets G+ apart is how integrated it already is into how Google itself works. As you well know, it’s already too easy to switch between all of your Google properties with your Google account. You don’t even need to sign in 90% of the time! G+ will be just as natural.

Soon it will become second nature to +1 stuff and share with your “circles”. Oh no, I’m not just talking about the techie crowd like you and me, but I’m talking about everyone. Yes everyone.

How can I say this? Google+ takes every thing that a person does online i.e. search share chat hang out and consolidates everything in one place. It’s like Skype, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn combined into a low calorie snack. No one feels guilty about eating a 50 calorie treat!

The real game changer is how all of these sharing habits will influence searches on Google. Every time someone searches they will be reminded of G+ and their buddies! That’s practically every time some one goes on the internet! Not only that, its a fact that people prefer a recommendation from a known entity over some guy off the street. So, the CTR for shared items in the search results will be through the roof!

What does this mean for twitter and Facebook? Twitter will still have a following I’m sure, but over time people will be won over by G+ because It’s hard to keep up on tweets. Tweets aren’t going to automatically show up in searches! Facebook will still have a following too, but it will loose out to G+ because of privacy concerns less intrusive ads and a more integrated sharing system.

G+ will change more how social marketers work. Instead of begging people to like your page, Marketers will understand that each share on G+ will have  a wider reach. I.e. circles & extended circles. In addition, these shares will get more targeted because of the nature of circles, for example how the user will categorize them. This may be where Google plans on focusing advertising or maybe they’ll just integrate it into Adwords as demographics.

Marketers will see the competitive advantage of G+ and plan accordingly by developing more valuable content and more viral content. It’s going to be a whole new playing field of influence and experts.

It is really bananas! You must start understanding G+ now before the space gets too crowded.

Even though I hate Social media I’m going to invest my time harnessing the power of Google+. I suggest you do the same (unless you’re my competition).
